Vietnam. 174 AHC #65-09938 A/C was on a CA mission in the Ninh Hoa area when it lost RPM on termination of a pinnacle approach. The pilot attempted to dive the A/C off the pad to regain the RPM, struck a tree, crashed and burned. 09 MAR 67. WO1 Harold
The majority of the 174th assaults were in the Phu Cat Mountains and associated valleys. The 174th Shark's Gun Platoon received permission from General Claire Chennault's Flying Tigers to use the famed Shark Mouth for their gunship platoon. The 174th Shark Mouth's painted helicopters became known through out Vietnam as the Sharks.

The Vinh Long Outlaws Association (a 501(c)19 nonprofit, tax-exempt organization) was formed from personnel previously assigned to aviation units with lineage to the original and all succeeding Outlaws, Mavericks (later called Bushwhackers), and Roadrunners that deployed to and operated out of Vinh Long, Vietnam, and to a more recent unit that bore the same Outlaw call sign and fought in Iraq.

" The 174th AHC "Sharks", arrived in Vietnam with the fronts of their Hueys painted the factory subdued olive green and black. The only distinguishing marks were the white "triangular fin" painted on the vertical stabilizer at the end of the tail boom.
