Jan 26, 2016 · Mechanical Properties of 1020 SteelMechanical properties are as under. Hardness in HB as specified in technical sources is around 119 to 235. Tensile strength is from 394.72 to unspecified MPa in some technical sources. Yield strength is from 294.72 to unspecified MPa in some technical sources. Elongation is 36.5% in 50mm.
1020 steel responds well to cold work and heat treating. Weldability is fair. ApplicationsShafts, lightly stressed gears, hard wearing surfaces, pins, chains and case hardened parts where core strength is not critical. 1020 is suitable for case hardened parts where core strength is not critical. AISI 1020 Carbon Steel General Characteristics of Low-Carbon Steel 1020. At this carbon level, annealing after forging may not be necessary, and depending upon the hardness after forging and the complexity of the part being forged, machining may be carried out on the as-forged parts.
AISI 1020 carbon steel is a commonly used plain carbon steel. AISI 1020 grade of steel is used for forged motor shafts, hydraulic shafts and pump shafts etc. We are renowned AISI 1020 steel stockholders and suppliers, delivering to the whole of India and worldwide.
AISI 1020 Steel is low hardenability and low tensile carbon steel carbon steel. And its Brinell hardness of 119 – 235 and tensile strength of 410-790 MPa.

Aug 18, 2011 · A part casted with 1020 steel, but need carburize ( .012 MIN DP) to HRC 30~45 in case. My questions are1. Can we test the hardness with HRA or superficial scale and convert it to HRC? 2. The size in section is 3/8" square, if hardness in surface measured at HRC 40, what is the hardness
SAE-AISI 1020 steel is a carbon (non-alloy) steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. 1020 is the designation in both the SAE and AISI systems for this material. G10200 is the UNS number. It has a fairly high electrical conductivity and can have a moderately low tensile strength among wrought carbon or non-alloy steels.
Oct 01, 2003 · Heat treater's can be brutal and ding's are common. If you have long parts make sure and state on the drawing and P.O. that the parts are to be racked vertically. Also call-out a straightness spec. ieParts to be straight to .005" after heat treat. You should also specify a core hardness

These results showed that the hardness of AISI 1020 steel can be changed and improved by different heat treatments for a particular application. From the microstructures we have found that the annealed specimens with mainly ferrite structure give the lowest hardness value and highest ductility while hardened specimens which comprise martensite give the highest hardness value and lowest ductility.
