Grade 440C stainless steel is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and good hardness and wear resistance. Grade 440C is capable of attaining, after heat treatment, the highest strength, hardness and wear resistance of all the stainless alloys.
Atlas Grade datasheet 440C rev May 2008 July 2010.
The corrosion resistance of Grade 440C is close to that of grade 304 in many environments. Consult Atlas Technical Assistance for specific environmental recommendations. Not recommended for use in temperatures above the relevant tempering temperature, because of reduction in mechanical properties by over-tempering.
AISI 400C is available in either standard melted (ams 5630) or vacuum melted (ams 5618) versions. AMS 5618 is typically used for anti-friction bearing components where resistance to both corrosion and wear is essential. 440C is capable of hardnesses in excess of 58 HRC after heat treatment.
Grade 440C stainless steel is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and good hardness and wear resistance. The following datasheet gives an overview of grade 440C stainless steel. Chemical Composition. The chemical composition of grade 440C stainless steel is outlined in the following table.
Please contact us if you require special steel types other than those shown in the table. The proof test is conducted when specified. Hardness is measured by HV or HRB only, depending upon the sheet thickness. Please contact us for mechanical properties if EN, ASTM, or AISI specification is required.
